Cooperation with Tatra banka: faster invoice financing for small and medium-sized businesses

Prague, March 10, 2026 – Small and medium-sized enterprises are facing increasingly demanding business conditions, which significantly increase pressure on their cash flow and reduce their resilience to economic fluctuations. One solution that is proving exceptionally effective in Europe is partnerships between banks and fintech companies. These combine the stability and credibility of a bank with the speed and technological flexibility of a fintech.

An example of this approach is the pilot project between Tatra banka and fintech company Malcom Finance. As part of this collaboration, a selected group of Tatra banka’s business clients has been given the opportunity to test the Invoice Financing service. It is a digital solution that enables issued invoices to be funded and financial resources tied up in receivables to be released quickly, directly through the Tatra banka mobile app.

The pilot phase is currently intended only for selected segments of business clients, with the aim of testing the product in real conditions and gathering feedback before a possible wider rollout.

A bank as an innovator, a fintech as a technology partner

Traditional banks have a strong foundation, extensive infrastructure and the trust of their clients. Fintech companies, on the other hand, bring specialized know-how, agility, and technology built on data and artificial intelligence. Combining these two worlds makes it possible to test new forms of financing that respond precisely to entrepreneurs’ needs.

Tatra banka has long been perceived as a leader in innovation in the Slovak banking market. It uses cooperation with a fintech partner to validate new solutions in pilot mode with a narrow group of clients. Malcom Finance brings to the partnership experience in invoice financing across the Central and Eastern European region, as well as its own technology for automated risk assessment.

“In our view, partnerships between banks and fintechs are the future of business financing. A bank brings certainty, while a fintech brings speed and specialization. In the pilot project with Tatra banka, we are testing how we can jointly accelerate access to cash from invoices for smaller companies that have not traditionally had easy access to factoring,” says Jaroslav Ton, CEO of Malcom Finance.

Monika Beseda, Partnership Development Manager at Tatra banka, adds: “We have long been committed to bringing modern financial solutions to smaller companies as well. Cooperation with a fintech partner allows us to flexibly test new products in pilot mode, first with selected segments of our business clients. The Invoice Financing service combines the financial security of a bank with digital convenience and speed. The pilot phase will show us how clients perceive the possibility of financing issued invoices directly in the mobile app.”

Why invoice financing matters for small and medium-sized businesses

Small and medium-sized businesses often operate in an environment where payment terms are dictated by larger buyers. Invoices with 30-, 60- or even 90-day maturities are not uncommon. And although everything may be contractually correct, the money is simply not in the account yet. Ongoing costs, however, cannot wait.

This is exactly where Invoice Financing comes in. It allows companies to convert issued invoices into cash in a short time, without having to wait for payment from their customers. Through the Invoice Financing service, entrepreneurs can obtain up to 80% of the invoice value, usually within 24 hours of uploading it. They receive the remaining amount after the customer pays the invoice, reduced by the service fee, which starts at 1.7% of the invoice value for a 30-day term.

Another advantage is that multiple invoices can be financed at once, including lower-value invoices. The entire process is fully digital, with no lengthy administration or paperwork—from submitting the application to receiving the funds. An important feature of the service is also security: it is non-recourse factoring with insurance. This means that the fee includes insurance in case the customer does not pay the invoice. The client therefore gains not only fast access to cash, but also the assurance that if the buyer becomes insolvent, they will not have to repay the advanced funds.

“Today, companies need more than just a traditional loan. They expect tailor-made solutions that help them finance day-to-day operations and growth without waiting a long time for money from their customers. Invoice Financing is a typical example of a product where we see enormous potential when banking infrastructure and fintech technology come together,” adds Jaroslav Ton.

How the pilot works from the client’s perspective

For selected Tatra banka business clients, the Invoice Financing service is available directly in the Tatra banka mobile app. After logging in, the client selects the Invoice Financing option from the menu and gets a basic overview of how the service works.

If they decide to use the service, they go through a simple activation process. After confirming their interest, they are redirected to the secure Malcom Finance client zone, where they electronically sign the agreement and complete the basic setup. They can then start uploading the invoices they want to finance. Once Malcom Finance checks and approves an invoice, the client receives an advance payment of 80% of the invoice value into their Tatra banka account, usually within one day.

When the customer pays the invoice, the client receives the remaining 20% of the invoice value, reduced by the financing fee, which starts at 1.7% of the invoice value for a 30-day term. Throughout the process, the client can monitor the status of their invoices and financing either in the Tatra banka mobile app or in the Malcom Finance client zone, where more detailed information is available. All financed invoices are insured, and if the customer does not pay the invoice even after the insurance waiting period, the advance is paid by the insurer, not by the client.

The future: more partnerships, more options for businesses

Partnerships between banks and fintechs will play an increasingly important role in how small and medium-sized businesses finance their growth. Tatra banka, long regarded as a leader in innovation in the Slovak banking market, plays a key role in this area. It is able to bring new solutions into practice quickly and make them accessible to its clients in the form of modern digital services.

The pilot project between Tatra banka and Malcom Finance shows that even more complex products such as invoice financing can be delivered to clients in a simple, digital way, with an emphasis on transparency and security.

Malcom Finance has long specialized in invoice financing for companies in logistics, transport, export, construction and manufacturing. Since 2018, the company has helped more than 4,000 businesses finance over 290,000 invoices with a total volume exceeding 320 mln Euro, and it operates in three markets: the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Thanks to its dynamic growth, Malcom Finance has ranked among the fastest-growing technology companies in the region and is currently the 9th fastest-growing company in Central and Eastern Europe according to the Deloitte Fast 50 CEE ranking.

During the pilot phase, the goal of both partners is to understand as well as possible the needs of selected segments of business clients and their experience with the service, and then to further develop the model of cooperation between bank and fintech so that entrepreneurs are the ones who ultimately benefit from it.
